Why you should live in London at least once in your life

There are some cities around the world that just seem to have some kind of magnetic draw, a legendary aura that surrounds them that demand that people should live there at least once in their life if they get the chance. London is one of those cities. Here’s why…

The diverse cultures on offer

There are few cities as culturally diverse as London. Just take a wander around and you’ll notice people from every walk of life, from every corner of the globe. Countries from China and Israel to Romania and Portugal (and many in between) have significant representation in London, whilst pretty much every major religion is present. More than 300 languages are spoken in London, which is more than any other city in the world.

Education, education, education

If you’re a student, or looking to become one, then London is a perfect choice. There are a massive 45 top universities in London, four of which are in the top 40 in the world according to the Times Higher Education university ranking. Going to one of these universities will ensure your career starts off on the right foot, as they are held in high esteem by big companies all over the world.

Also, the level of student accommodation on offer is second to none. Granted, some are less than savoury but there are plenty of unbelievably good student houses in London. If you go with Urbanest or other similar student housing company then you’ll be blown away by what’s on offer.

Great transport links

London’s a big city but it couldn’t be simpler to get from A to B. Granted travelling on the Tube in rush hour isn’t the best experience in the world, but you’ll soon learn to avoid doing that if possible! You can also hop on a bus or jump in a taxi if you don’t want to tackle the Underground, or you can even hire a Boris Bike! Travelling to and from London is easy, too. You’ve got major airports Gatwick, Heathrow and Stanstead, whilst Euston and St Pancras stations can pretty much take you anywhere. You can even jump on the Eurostar at Kings Cross and be in Paris within a couple of hours.

That’s entertainment!

One of London’s biggest plus points is that it’s absolutely dripping with entertainment and culture in some form. You’ve got your famous art galleries, such as the National Gallery and Tate Modern (to name but two), but then you’ve also got myriad smaller galleries dotted around the city. There are even a number of ‘secret’ art galleries for the more hardcore art lovers. Overall there are apparently 857 art galleries in total throughout the Capital.

You’ve then got the huge number of theatres on offer throughout the West End and beyond if you want to check out some of the biggest plays and musicals in the world, whilst a fifth of all cinemas in the UK can be found in London. If you’re a football fan, you’ve got two of the best teams on the planet on your doorstep in Arsenal and Chelsea, whilst if you just want to do the whole tourist thing, you can take your pick from the endless number of attractions and sightseeing spots.

There are also a number of wonderful museums across London, including the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. Many of the art galleries and museums are free, which means you can get a healthy dose of entertainment and culture without spending a penny.

One thing’s for certain – you’ll never be bored living in London!
